It happens to me quite often that similar situations occur in different settings suprisingly leading to same results or reaction.
One idea worth of remembering of mandatory Crowd Managment course , states that just minority of population is prone to panic in emergency situation. Irrational behaviour, inability to focus and solve basic tasks, hysterical reaction are typical symptoms.
However, majority of people are usually passive and do not recognize a potencial danger.
What I wonder most is the almost identical way people respond throughout cultures.
For example counting in german poses exemplary hurdle for foreigners. Only last two digits are to be read in reverse order. Under stressful circumstances it takes full concentration to decipher the vocal message. Imagine dialing a relatively short but melodic number in situation when attention of several people lay on you. Typing right digits but in wrong order equals a failure.
However, repeating the phone number even in more sinister tone, does not deliver desired result.
Breaking the rule and saying the number as it follows from biggest digit to last one or grouping several digit in more comprehensible number might.
If there is communication misunderstanding, whatever the stressful factor, do we respond in critical, demeaning manner (laughing out or passing on anger) or break our habitual approach and handle the situation specifically?
