getting best of Suunto Ambit2 Silver

For the simplest things there are no users guides. However, the most voluminous manuals describes usually in big style issues, which are otherwise easy to comprehend.

Troublesome beeping
After skipping reading the user manual, the very first thing I did as the package containing Suunto Ambit2 Silver with heart belt, was finally delivered, I put it on and went out for a run. Straight away I was set off by the annoying beeps everytime a button was pushed. So searching online for help, Uncle Google suggested to have a look at http://answers.suunto.com - just in case you overlooked the manufacturer's webmanual at Google Drive.

Genuinely, my first impulse urged me to switch off all sounds. Please do not do that! Doing so any proper sound feedback will be disabled.

For example, it took me ages to figure out how to enable sound indication of next interval by circuit training. ( For info how to set up personalised training sessions give a glance at blogpost  by Tom Wright). Especially indoors one needs a feedback from the watch - most convenient would be a combination of vibration and beeping sound (for now forget the vibration stuff :(  )

The proper way: go to Options (hold for 2 seconds button NEXT) / GENERAL / Tones & Display / Tones : Buttons off

After setting up courses and training arts via movescount.com website, the watch extensively replace smartphones especially in harsh outdoor conditions.

Setting up auto-matisation
Imagine riding your bike or horse,  occasionally stopping to take a picture or waiting at traffic lights. Probably you have some reason why to enable auto-pause via movescount.com. The movement sensor in cooperation with GPS localisation recognise standstill and pauses the chronoscope.

No need to worry about sudden movements with your hands, which would prompt the auto-restart, in case auto-lap deactivated on movescount.com. Makes more sense to manually mark a pause as a next lap, getting back on track as the third lap - for example.

In case of longer break, as having a coffee or snack, obviously moving slightly around the bike or a table, a manual push on STOP START button overrides auto-pause. Well, remind yourself to re-initiate the session before getting into saddle ... otherwise one regret not having the challenging descent recorded.

My secret tip is to arrange just one datatype be displayed at once. Automatically rotating each one or two seconds, so during a workout all the desired data are instantly at glance. In comparison with larger smartphone screen, apps like runtastic.com or endomondo.com for android or iOS show more data per se, however with obvious con of having it attached to the sporting equipment exposed to any weather - like on bicycle handlebars.

Starting a session - the whole sequence:
I missed several tours, cos I misunderstood how this Suunto wristwatch works. Basically, after choosing sport under Exercise with Start/Stop button, the watch attempts to connect all paired accessoires listed via movescount.com (like bike POD or heart belt) finally follows, if choosen, GPS localisation. Only now everything is ready and with Start/Stop button one initiates the session !!!
To double-check, have a look at chronometer - if the time runs, you are ready to go on with recorded  sport activity

a humble example of my performance tracked by Suunto Ambit2 - this time without heart rate belt.
